Rahul only one among 20 Congress candidates: Pinarayi Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 31 (UNI): Refering to the Congress president's candidature from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said Rahul Gandhi was just one among the 20 Lok Sabha candidates of Congress-led United Democratic Front in the state.

"The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front has the capacity to fight against the Congress party in Kerala and the party sees that Rahul is only one among the Congress candidates contesting in 20 Lok Sabha seats in the state," the Chief Minister told reporters.

Both the Congress and the BJP follow anti-people policies, hence the Left Front demands an alternative political alliance against these two forces at the national level, he added.

Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from Kerala is followed by several discussions at their party level, but this could be seen only as a move against the CPI(M), he felt.

"As the work for the elections begins, we are confident and our utmost aim is to defeat Rahul Gandhi," he added.

Rahul, who earlier claimed that he will win the Amethi seat in UP, is now thinking about defeating the Left Front in Kerala, he added.

"No one will think that Rahul is contesting against the BJP in Kerala where BJP has no role," he said.

Asking why Rahul was not contesting against the BJP where they are in power, he said the statement of Congress leader Joshi, who claimed that Congress could only build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, had only helped communal forces.

Urging the Congress party to take strong stand against communal forces, he said the Left parties were trying to bring in an alternative political platform at the national level and increase the number of seats of Left parties in the elections.
