New Delhi, may 16 (IBNS): After being badly defeated in the Lok Sabha polls, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and her son, who is also the vice president of the party, accepted the loss.

"I wish the new government all the best. From my part, the Congress party has done pretty badly. As the Vice President of the party, I hold myself responsible," Rahul said.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi said she accepted the defeat.

"We did not receive the support we hoped for. We accept that in democracy all these happens. We understand all people are against us. I accept the defeat of the Congress party. We hope that the new government won't compromise on the country's unity," she said.

Trends on Friday showed a NDA government in New Delhi under Narendra Modi is now almost a reality.
