Rahul to address Mahendergarh rally in place of Sonia

New Delhi/UNI: Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi will not be addressing the election rally in Haryana's Mahendergarh on Friday and will be replaced by party's former president Rahul Gandhi.

'Shri @RahulGandhi ji will be addressing a public meeting at Mahendragarh today, at 2 PM. @INCIndia President Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji will not be able to attend the meeting due to unavoidable reasons', Haryana Congress twitter handle read.

So far, it is not clear as to why the plan changed as it was likely to be Ms Gandhi's first such public meeting after taking the charge of the party.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has been active in the campaigns in both Maharashtra and Haryana and has addressed public meetings in both the states for the upcoming Assembly polls on October 21.

Senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is party's general secretary and Haryana in charge, local leaders and state president Kumari Selja are likely to be preset in the rally.
