Railwaymen propose indefinite strike from July 11

New Delhi, Jun 8 (IBNS): Indian Railways will be thrown out of gear from July 11 if the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) carry out their proposed indefinite strike from that day, according to media reports.

NFIR expects to serve the strike notice on Thursday to the general managers of the various zonal railways and production units.

The federation's general secretary, M Raghavaiah, said that NFIR is not happy with the central government's response to their charter of demands submitted in December 2015.

Nearly 1.3 million railway employees are expected to stay away from work during the strike.

M Raghavaiah, who is also the Chairman of the National Joint Council of Action (NJCA) for central government employees, said in a release that the 'response of the central government on the charter of demands submitted in December 2015 has been very disappointing and casual'.

"Consequently, the organisations of the central government employees- Railways, Defence, Postal, Income Tax, Central Customs and Excise, etc whose number is over 32 lakhs have taken unanimous decision on 3rd June to go on indefinite strike from 11th July," he said.

Some of their demands include better minimum wage and pay fixation, scrap New Pension Scheme (NPS) and reinstate old scheme, recall FDI notification for construction, operation and maintenance of Indian Railways, etc.
