Rajasthan priest burnt alive over land dispute, dies
Jaipur/IBNS: A priest in Rajasthan's Karauli district died after he was allegedly burnt alive by six people over a land dispute, media reports said.
The incident happened around 177 kms away from state capital Jaipur.
Reportedly, Babu Lal Vaishnav, the priest, had around 5.2 acres of land which belonged to a temple in the village.
But the land was handed over to the priest as a source of income, which is a prevalent practice.
The dispute was triggered when Vaishnav wanted to build a house near his land, which was objected to by a group of people from the dominant Meena community.
The dispute had also reached the village elders who had ruled in favour of the priest.
Following the ruling, the priest placed bales of his newly-harvested millet on the land to mark his ownership.
After the accused reportedly started building their own hut on the land which was levelled by the priest, a conflict broke out.
The priest had said six people had set the bales of his millet on fire.
Also the accused had poured petrol on Vaishnav and tried to set him on fire, said the priest.
The victim, who was rushed to a hospital in Jaipur, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
