New Delhi, Aug 3 (IBNS) : The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday witnessed a ruckus with members of the Congress and the Samajwadi Party coming to a collision over the Bulandshahr gang-rape incident and other instances of crimes against women.

Raising the issue with a particular mention to the Bulandshahr incident, in which a mother and her daughter were gang-raped by armed men last week,  Rajni Patil of the Congress said the  incidents of rape and oth er atrocities against women was on the rise and the House has to discuss the issue.

Raising protests, Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan (SP) said Congress raising the issue was like a crocodile shedding tears.

She said she had given notice for discussing the issue several days ago but it  has not yet been accepted. "I do not care which part of the country the incidents have taken place. I want to discuss. I do not want to polinticise," she said.

Senior Congress leader Ambika Soni replied by saying that it was  a minister of the SP government in Uttar Pradesh who was playing politics over the incident.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said such incidents need  to be condemned in strongest terms whether they take place in Uttar Pradesh or any other state  and strictest action must be taken against culprits.

"We are ready for discussion on women's security. Please give notice, we will discuss it," he said.

Amid noise created by Congress and SP members, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said the matter was "very very serious" and every member was seeking a discussion.

"No problem. Please give notice," he said.
