New Delhi/IBNS: A startup by an alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi was behind the novel drone show at the 'Beating Retreat' ceremony of the Republic Day on Saturday, media reports said.

The technology to organise the 1000-drone light show was developed by Botlab Dynamics in just six months with the help of the central government.

The startup was funded in two phases by the Science and Technology Ministry's technology development board for the project.

Dr. Sarita Ahlawat, co-founder and MD of Botlab, said the light show became successful with the support of the technology department as the private sector was reluctant to hand-hold the startup, The Times of India reported.

The ceremony was attended by President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Ram Nath Kovind.

'Beating Retreat', which was organised by the Defence Ministry, was started in 1955 and since then it became the hallmark of Republic Day.
