RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat defends LGBT rights as biological truth, says Hindu society accepts it without fuss

Nagpur/IBNS: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has come out in defending the rights of the LGBTQ community, holding that the Hindu tradition always accepts this biological truth without the present hullabaloo around it.

In an interview to Organiser Weekly, which is an affiliated publication of the Hindu nationalist RSS, Bhagwat said: “Every now and then, a minor question crops up which is blown out of proportion by the media, because the so-called neo-Left thinks it is pragmatism."

"The third gender itself is never a problem, but they are a sect. They have their own gods and goddesses too. They come to Kumbh (mela) too and have their own place. They live their own lives and they are integrated with the mainstream too, we never made a hullabaloo over it," he said.

For the LGBTQ community, he said one should remember the Mahabharata story of Lord Krishna and the rumour he spread to kill Hansa and Dimbak, the powerful generals of Jarasandha, the king of Magadha, to weaken the latter against Bhim, as the two warriors (Hansa and Dimbak) were his big strength.

These two generals were so close that Lord Krishna spread the rumour of one of them (Dimbak) being killed, causing such grief to the other (Hansa) that he committed suicide. Dimbak only followed the same path and killed himself.

"What was the relationship between these two generals? It was this [same sex love]," he said.

"In humans it [same sex attraction] is always there. It is also present in animals [I know being a vet]. This is a biological truth. But instead of this noise, they should be left to have their own private space. They are always there in the society without much hullabaloo," said the 6th and current Sarsanghchalak of the RSS, which has often been attacked for its hardline views and known as a Hindu right wing organisation and ideological patron of the ruling BJP in India.
