SC rejects Maharashtra govt's plea against CBI probe in Anil Deshmukh case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected the Maharashtra government's plea seeking a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the money laundering investigation against the state's former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, making clear that the CBI probe in the matter would continue, media reports said.
"We will not even touch this matter," the Supreme Court said, reported NDTV.
This comes as a huge setback for the Maharashtra government as the plea expressed doubt over a fair investigation by CBI citing the appointment of former Maharashtra police chief Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was the head of the investigating agency.
Anil Deshmukh, a senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, has been accused of taking bribes for transfer in the police department among other allegations.
A bench of SC judges SK Kaul and MM Sundresh refused to step in and rejected the petition.
In December, the Bombay High Court had dismissed the Maharashtra government's plea.
