SC stays two defamation cases against Kejriwal
The court gave the order after Kejriwal, who is also the chief of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, challenged the law on defamation.
It has issued notice to the Centre and will take up the case in July.
Advocate Surender Kumar Sharma has alleged that in 2013, the AAP approached him and asked him to contest the Delhi assembly elections on a party ticket.
Sharma alleges that he filled up the application form at the time to contest the polls after being told by senior AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Yogendra Yadav that the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) had decided to give him the ticket. However, it was later denied to him.
On October 14, 2013, the complainant claimed, articles in leading newspapers carried "defamatory, unlawful and derogatory words used by the accused persons", which lowered his reputation in the Bar and the society.
In another case, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has alleged that he was defamed by the AAP chief who had included his name in the party's list of "India's most corrupt".
The two cases are being heard at the Patiala House court and the Karkardooma court in Delhi.
