Shutdown in West Bengal district protesting killing of college student

Kolkata, Aug 8(IBNS) A 12-hour shutdown called by the Congress is being observed in West Bengal's West Midnapore district on Saturday to protest the killing of a college student allegedly by members of the Trinamool Congress' youth wing.

The bandh is being supported by the BJP and CPI (M).

The Congress Chhatra Parishad has also called for a one-hour statewide 'chakka jam' protest from 11 am on Saturday.

Krishnapada Jana, a third year student of a college in Sabang, was beaten to death allegedly by the supporters of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad on Friday afternoon.

The Trinamool Chatra Parishad has denied any involvement in the incident.
