Kolkata, July 19 (IBNS): The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has suspended two local party leaders of Burdwan-Asansol industrial area over alleged involvement in extortion bid and threatening officials of a steel plant at Jamuria in Burdwan district.

" Trinamool suspends two local leaders in Jamuria for harassing Shyam SEL group," AITC tweeted.

Shyam SEL management earlier complained to the police that  company officials were being threatened.

The group had complained of threats and extortion demands by criminals.

The criminals are allegedly affiliated to the TMC.

The Shyam Group of Industries is one of the front runners in the iron and steel sector in the eastern half of the country.

West Bengal Chief Minister earlier called the entire episode, without naming it, as ' small matter'.

"This is a small matter. There were only exchange of words. Nothing else," Banerjee told reporters.
