Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to visit India this week: Reports

| @indiablooms | Jan 12, 2025, at 10:01 pm

Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is expected to India on January 15, media reports said.

His visit commemorates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of India-Singapore diplomatic relations

Diplomatic sources told ANI that this visit is expected to take India-Singapore relations to new heights, with a focus on non-traditional areas of cooperation such as energy, industrial parks, and skills.

India-Singapore relations were elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore in September 2024, as per the website of the Indian Embassy in Singapore.

"With shared history, long tradition of friendship based on trust and mutual respect, and extensive cooperation across a wide range of areas, India-Singapore cooperation has deepened and diversified over the years," the website said.

Prime Minister Modi has visited Singapore 5 times since he assumed office in 2014.
