Situation in Kashmir not sustainable must change for sure: Angela Merkel

New Delhi/IBNS: German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday told the German media that the current situation in Kashmir was not sustainable and must change for sure ahead of a 'restricted meeting' with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, media reports said.

After jointly chairing the fifth Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) with the Prime Minister, Merkel said the prevailing situation in Kashmir was not good and it must improve.

According to media reports, though Kashmir issue was not brought up in the IGC, Merkel hoped Prime Minister Modi will brief her on his plans about Jammu and Kashmir.

German Chancellor's comment comes on the backdrop of concerns expressed by foreign lawmakers over the restrictions imposed post the scrapping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir nearly three months ago.
