Six extremists nabbed in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati, January 19 (IBNS) : Security forces on Sunday night unearthed a hideout of the newly formed militant group Karbi Liberation Peoples Force (KLPF) and apprehended at least six cadres and two linemen of the outfit in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police said on Monday.

Assam police IGP (L&O) SN Singh said acting on a  tip-off, police and 8th Jat Regiment of Army had jointly launched operation at Jilangsu area near Gandhipur in the hill district on Sunday night, where a militant group was hiding.

"When troops reached the remote area militants started firing upon them and bullets were exchanged. After the encounter security forces nabbed six militants and two linemen of the  group, " the top police official said.

The nabbed cadres were identified as Rakesh Ingti, Andres Teron, Biru Teron, John Teron, Babu Teron and Rupsingh Kro.

The  apprehended two linemen identified as Mohan Teron and Biren Ingti.

During the operation, security personnel recovered two point 22 pistols with two magazines, 12 rounds ammunition, one 9mm pistol with magazine, three rounds ammunition, six UGBL grenades, seven mobile phones, 30 SIM cards, two pen drives and letter  pads of the outfit.
