Snowfall disrupts life in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar, Dec 12 (IBNS): Fresh snowfall disrupted life in Kashmir Valley on Tuesday.

Traffic movement on majority of the link roads was temporarily suspended following snowfall.

The Srinagar-Jammu highway and Mughal road were also closed for vehicular movement.

The MeT has also predicted more rains and snow fall in Jammu and Kashmir.

The present weather conditions are likely to continue till Friday, officials said.

An official said that due to heavy snowfall the Srinagar-Jammu highway was closed for traffic.

He said that heavy snowfall was witnessed across Banihal Tunnel.

The highway was closed due to heavy snowfall at the Jawahar Tunnel, the Patnitop and Ramban areas and landslides at Pathiyal.

Mughal road, connecting Poonch and Rajouri with south Kashmir's Shopian district, was also closed after heavy snowfall in Pir Ki Gali.

Despite fresh snowfall, the rail and air traffic remained operational. Director Airport Sharad Kumar said that all the flights took off as per routine.

An official said that Srinagar-Jammu highway, Mughal road, Srinagar-Kargil road, Kargil-Zanaskar Road, Bandipora-Gurez, Kupwara-Karnah Road, Kupwara-Machil Road, Kupwara-Keran Road, Anantnag- Kishtwar Road were suspended for traffic due to slippery conditions.

Snowfall was also recorded in different tourists sport including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg and Kokarnag. Gulmarg received the maximum snowfall of over 2 feet.
