New Delhi/UNI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who is admitted in Sir Ganga Ram hospital due to Covid related issues, has contracted a fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract and is being treated for it, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said Friday.

The Congress said that the party president was admitted to the hospital on June 12 after she developed profuse bleeding from her nose after she got infected with Covid.

She was put under treatment at the hospital, and underwent a related follow up procedure Thursday morning.

A fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract was also detected after being admitted to the hospital, said Ramesh.

"She is currently being treated for it along with other post-Covid symptoms. She continues to be under close observation and treatment," Ramesh said.

Congress had announced on Jun 2 that Sonia Gandhi had tested positive for Covid.

The Congress president was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on Jun 23 in a money laundering case.

Rahul has already appeared for questioning at the ED for three continuous days, and has been summoned again to appear Monday.
