Sonia takes on Modi at Congress meeting
New Delhi, Jan 13 (IBNS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Mod at a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting here called to brainstorm over how to revive the fortunes of the party.
In a meeting attended by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi was quoted as saying by the party's Twitter handle that: "Today's Government is operating through a perilous notion that ordinances constitute 'good governance.'"
Accusing the government of "bypassing debates" in Parliament and bringing in ordinance routes on crucial issues, Gandhi said democratic institutions were being "undermined", with "one ordinance coming every 28 days from the BJP government."
"We have to communicate effectively that the Modi government is not serving the nation in the correct spirit bypassing Parliament," Gandhi told her party leaders.
She also attacked the Modi government over some controversial remarks by the ministers.
"Modi has chosen to ignore provocative statements by the members of his government. This is a continuation of the strategy of polarisation... What is equally if not more alarming is that in the past few weeks, the true colours and intentions of the Prime Minister and the BJP have become abundantly clear," she accused.
