Stones pelted at Vande Bharat Express in Bengal for third time? Railways contradict, calls it rumour

Kolkata/IBNS: In a  span of a week, another incident of stone pelting on the Vande Bharat Express in West Bengal came to light even as the railways have denied that nothing of the sort has taken place, media reports said.

If media reports are to be believed, this is the third such incident to take place in West Bengal and stones were reportedly pelted at the C14 compartment of the train on Sunday.

As a result of the alleged incident, the New Jalpaiguri-bound train was compelled to halt at Bolpur station for 10 minutes instead of the scheduled two minutes time.

No casualties were reported but the alleged incident has created horror among passengers who are now scared to board the newly launched Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express.

A probe is underway and visuals showed police officials taking note of the incident.

Sunday's alleged stone pelting incident took place before the train could reach Malda station.

However contradicting media reports, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has said no such incident took place.

The statement came after the NFR conducted a primary inquiry into the matter.

"It was a rumour as some passengers claimed that they heard a sound. The sound was not due to stone pelting. In fact, the scratch on the window was not due to stone pelting," the NFR said.

Earlier stones were pelted at the Vande Bharat Express in Malda and near New Jalpaiguri.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the second incident took place while the train was passing through Bihar.

Bengal's opposition party-the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the intervention of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the incidents.

The Howrah-New Jalpaiguri train was flagged off virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec 30.
