Supreme Court asks CBI for status report on disproportionate assets case against Mulayam-Akhilesh
New Delhi, Mar 25 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a status report on the disproportionate assets case against former Uttar Pradesh Chief Ministers and Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, media reports said.
"We want to know what has happened to this case? There is a status report of 2007. What has happened? We would like to know whether the case is registered?" the top court asked CBI as quoted by NDTV.
The apex court asked for the status report within two weeks.
Timeline of the case:
In 2005, political activist Vishwanath Chaturvedi had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a direction for the CBI against Mulayam, his son Akhilesh, daughter-in-law Dimple and other son Prateek for acquiring assets by misusing powers of authority.
In 2007, the Supreme Court had ordered an inquiry by the CBI against all four.
In 2012, the top court had dropped Dimple's name but asked CBI to go ahead with its investigation against Mulayam and Akhilesh.
No First Information Report (FIR) has so far been lodged.
According to the petition, the disproportionate assets case amounts to Rs. 2.63 crore.
