Supreme Court rejects plea to ban cow slaughter across the country

New Delhi, Jan 27 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking total ban on cow slaughter across the country, reports said.

The apex court said it can not  issue such a directive since it can not order states to enact laws banning cow slaughter.

The petition, filed before the apex court, claimed that cattle smuggling takes place rampantly from the states where slaughter is banned to those states where it is permitted.

The court said that it has already passed orders on measures to be taken by states to stop the illegal inter-state transportation of cattle and cannot order states to enact a law banning cow slaughter.
