Supreme Court to hear Delhi-NCR 'toxic air' plea on Nov 10

New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a plea related to rising air pollution in the Delhi-NCR on Nov 10, as it noted "the issue requires intervention".

A lawyer mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit, who said, "We will hear the case on November 10, Thursday.

"We agree that the issue requires intervention. List it for hearing on November 10."

The CJI, who will demit office on Nov 8, said.

The lawyer mentioned the matter for an urgent hearing before the apex court and sought immediate steps to curb stubble burning in adjoining Punjab and Haryana.

"Parali burning is one of the main reasons for the increase in air pollution in Delhi and NCR. Please hear the matter," the lawyer pleaded.

"Even normal people can't walk around in such a situation. The AQI (Air Quality Index) level has risen due to the stubble burning. 500 AQI has never been in Delhi.

"We can’t walk freely in this condition. Stubble burning has increased in Punjab. The Secretaries (concerned) must be called," the lawyer told the court.
