Guwahati: A suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated in Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong on Sunday evening.

No casualty has been reported so far.

According to the reports, the blast hit Police Bazar area.

Following the blast, police and other security personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area.

The entry to the Police Bazar area has been barricaded following the blast.

Meanwhile, the bomb squad team rushed to the area to examine the materials used for the blast.

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma condemned the blast and tweeted: "Strongly condemn the blast at Police Bazar, Shillong this evening. An attempt to disrupt peace and bring harm is nothing but a cowardly act. Perpetrators will not be spared. We will ensure peace prevails in the State."
