Jaipur/IBNS: A tennis coach has been arrested for raping a 17-year-old girl, who trained under him, on the pretext of getting her chance to play in more tournaments and help her gain recognition as a player, said media report.

The accused has been identified as Gaurang Nalwaya, who was arrested by the police on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when the parents noted changes in the minor's behaviour and tried to speak to her. She broke down in front of her parents and related her ordeal in the hands of her tennis coach, who she alleged raped her repeatedly, police said

The rape survivour was being coached at Sawai Man Singh Stadium.

“The accused allegedly raped the girl many times. In March 2021, he took her to Udaipur on the pretext of letting her play in a tournament and raped her. A complaint has been lodged by the family and a case has been registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC), said deputy commissioner of police (south) Harendra Mahawar to TOI.

The police said if more cases come to light against the coach, they will be added in the FIR.

Police also maintained that the incident was a clear case of breach of trust as parents trust such coaches and send their children to trai under them.
