Talking to UNI, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dileep Godbole stated, "The team of police personnel accompanied by the Home Guards went to Saralamba village on Wednesday for a prohibition raid."

"An armed mob of nearly 35 persons, mostly women, attacked the team while it was raiding the liquor dens at the riverside," he said, adding that they were wielding lethal weapons and furiously pelting stones at the team.

"The 28-year-old Sub-inspector K N Walip and Home Guard Santosh Humne sustained injuries from the axe in the ensuing attack. The duo have been hospitalized," he apprised.

Also, a couple of constables and other home guard jawans suffered in the attack, police said, mentioning that the frenzied mob later pelted stones at their jeep, damaging window panes as well as wireless equipment.

The assailants vented their ire on home guards as they led the police for raiding the liquor dens whereas the women intimidated the team with dire consequences while they were ebbing away from the spot.

Offenses against the mob has been registered under the IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions along with The Prohibition Act, The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, The Epidemic Act and Disaster Management Act.
