TMC hits out at Narendra Modi government for holding UGC NET during Durga Puja

Kolkata/IBNS: The conduction of the National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as UGC NET, during festival Durga Puja has turned out to be a new flashpoint between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC), which has been attempting to lead the students' issues in the last one month.

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday slammed the National Testing Agency (NTA)'s decision to hold NET throughout October including the three days when over nine crore people from the eastern state will be celebrating Durga Puja.

Accusing the BJP of "disrespecting" the culture of West Bengal, Banerjee tweeted, "Narendra Modi Ji’s blatant disrespect for the students and culture of Bengal is out in the open! What a ridiculous decision by NTA to schedule UGC NET exams on the auspicious days of Panchami, Shashti & Saptami, this Durga Puja."

Leading the students' protest against the conduction of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) amid Covid-19, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with her counterparts from other states and Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.

West Bengal and five other states had also moved the Supreme Court seeking a reconsideration of its own order to go on with the twin examinations but all in vain.
