Imphal/IBNS: Kripali Yambem a determined and ambitious individual from Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai, Imphal West, has made history by becoming the first woman from the North East to hold the rank of Assistant Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard.

Kripali's journey towards this achievement began during her high school and college years, where she displayed a keen interest in the National Cadets Corps (NCC). Her participation in the NCC played a pivotal role in molding her into an individual capable of embracing the challenges of military life, reported Yenda News Agency.

The desire to be different from her peers and an adventurous spirit motivated Kripali to pursue a career in the armed forces, despite the conventional aspirations of a career in Civil Services, Medicine, or Engineering.

Following a rigorous selection process that included a direct interview for graduates conducted twice annually, Kripali emerged successfully and was offered the prestigious position of Assistant Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard.

Her parents, Yambem Brajamohon Singh (Retd. Headmaster, Govt. Ideal Blind School, Takyel) and Thongam Geeta Devi (Teacher, Govt. Ideal Blind School, Takyel), initially questioned her decision, but Kripali remained steadfast in her determination to serve her country.

As a woman officer, Kripali proudly carries out her duties with dedication and professionalism. The allure of the uniform and the respect and lifestyle associated with it inspired her to pursue a career in the armed forces. She was confident in her ability to overcome any challenges during the probationary period, and her perseverance has paid off.

Kripali acknowledges the Indian Coast Guard as a branch of the Indian Armed Forces that upholds maritime laws in the country. She emphasizes that this service offers numerous opportunities for both men and women to prove their abilities through dedication, perseverance, and engaging activities.

The prospect of visiting various locations within the country and abroad, along with an excellent remuneration package and benefits, further adds to the appeal of the Indian Coast Guard.

With a silent smile filled with pride, Kripali feels a sense of belonging to the big and happy family she had always dreamed of joining as a young girl. Her remarkable achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring individuals, particularly women, who wish to pursue a career in the armed forces.
