Kolkata, July 17 (IBNS): The Customs department on Monday late night arrested two passengers for possessing cash worth US Dollars 1,55,000 from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI-CCU) airport in Kolkata, officials said.

According to reports, two Kolkata based traders, who were scheduled to depart for Bangkok by Bhutan Airlines flight B3-700, was detained by Customs officials for suspicious movement at around 11 pm.

During search, 1550 pieces of 100 USD notes, with a value of INR 1,06,11,300, were recovered from their possession.

"These persons were carrying a carton and the currency notes were kept concealed between the layers of the walls of the cardboard box containing biscuits and noodles," a senior Customs officer told IBNS.

"They were assigned to hand over the US Dollars to a person in Bangkok and we are investigating to identify others involved in the smuggling racket," the official added.

The Customs department denied to reveal the identities of the arrested persons.

However, the duo was produced at a local court in Barasat on Tuesday and they were remanded to 14-day judicial custody till July 31.
