UN to court throws out Marshall Islands' case against India
The island nation had filed the application against India in the UN's highest court in April 2014.
The court also said that it "Finds that it cannot proceed to the merits of the case."
In its application, the Marshall Islands said, "India has not fulfilled its obligation under customary international law to pursue in good faith negotiations to cease the nuclear arms race at an early date, and instead is taking actions to improve and expand its nuclear forces and to maintain them for the indefinite future."
It also said that India has not fulfilled its obligation under customary international law to pursue in good faith negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects under strict and effective international control, in particular by engaging a course of conduct, the quantitative build-up and qualitative improvement of its nuclear forces, contrary to the objective of nuclear disarmament.”
Although Marshall Islands had accused nine countries of failing to comply with the 1968 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but only India responded.
