Amit Shah promises Uniform Civil Code in 6 months in BJP Bengal pitch
Placing the Uniform Civil Code at the centre of its West Bengal pitch, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the BJP would implement it within six months if voted to power, as he unveiled the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the state elections.
He said the manifesto focuses on farmers, youth, women, and government employees, promising what he described as a new direction and renewed hope for the state.
Attack on Trinamool government
Launching a sharp political attack, Shah alleged that the 15-year rule of Mamata Banerjee has been a “nightmare” for the people of West Bengal.
He added that a BJP government would bring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance model to the state and ensure full implementation of central schemes with accountability.
Focus on women’s empowerment
A key highlight of the manifesto is financial support for women. Shah announced:
- ₹3,000 monthly assistance for women
- 33% reservation in police and government jobs
- A target of creating 75 lakh “Lakhpati Didis”
- At least one women’s police station in every mandal
- UCC, DA and Pay Commission Promises
The BJP reiterated its commitment to implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal within six months of coming to power.
Shah also promised Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees, implementation of the 7th Pay Commission within 45 days and support for youth and farmers.
For the youth, the party announced ₹3,000 monthly allowance for graduates and one-time ₹15,000 aid for competitive exam preparation.
For farmers, promises include:
- Total ₹9,000 annual support under PM-Kisan (including ₹3,000 from the state)
- Procurement of 100% paddy at ₹3,100 per quintal
- New schemes for fair prices for paddy, potato, and mango growers
- 'Zero tolerance' on infiltration
Shah also outlined a strict stance on illegal infiltration, promising a policy of “detect, delete and deport”.
“We will have zero tolerance for infiltrators,” he said, assuring decisive action if the BJP forms the government.
West Bengal will vote in two phases this election — April 23 (152 seats) and April 29 (142 seats).
