Guwahati, Mar 23 (IBNS): Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sarma will participate in the Namami Brahmaputra festival of Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday called on both the union ministers in New Delhi and extended invitation to grace the festival, which will be held in 21 districts across the state from March 31 to April 4.

In response to the Assam CM’s invitation, Gadkari confirmed his presence in the festival on April 4, while the union minister of state Mahesh Sarma will participate in the festival on April 2.

Sonowal, during the meeting, informed both the ministers about the salient features of the festivals and how the government is aiming at promoting the Brahmaputra civilizations, its contribution to the development of the region and how the same can act as a catalyst in transforming the economy of the state through this festival.

Apart from this, the festival will also showcase the rich art & culture, customs and traditions of different tribes and communities living on both banks of the Brahmaputra and other cultural and sports events.

Already preparations for holding the festivals are afoot and several dignitaries have confirmed their participation.

A theme song of the festival has also been released recently in a programme held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in the city.
