Azamgarh/UP/UNI: Around 12 persons were injured when a thatched house collapsed due to thunder of the lightning in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj block, police sources said on Wednesday.

Police sources said that the owner of the house, Priya Devi, told police that a meeting of a group of men and women was being held at the time of the incident.

"She told the police that 15 people were present at the meeting late on Tuesday night. After the meeting when the participants were about to leave, rains started and the people went into a thatched house which collapsed due to thunder or lightning," they said.

Police sources said that the injured were admitted to a private hospital in Maharajganj and at district headquarters.

Taking cognizance of the incident Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to ensure proper treatment of the incident.

He has also played for the speedy recovery of the injured.
