UP: 16 killed, 10 injured in bus-tempo collision

Kanpur/UNI: At least 16 people were killed and 10 others were critically injured in a collision between a private bus and a tempo in Sachendi area in the outskirts of Kanpur city on Tuesday night.

According to Inspector General of Police (IG) Mohit Agarwal, there was a collision between a private bus and a Vikram tempo, full of passengers, near a canal in the Kisan Nagar area of ​​Sachendi. The bus, which was running at a high speed, hit the tempo and later both the vehicles overturned.

The tempo was carrying workers from a nearby factory while the bus was going towards Delhi from Lucknow. The loud cries and screams of passengers were heard by the people nearby when the collision occurred.

Most of the passenger killed in the accident were travelling in the tempo.

The accident left the highway jammed for hours.

Police of Sachendi police station reached the spot and started the rescue operations, taking out the injured from the damaged vehicles with the help of local people.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the accident in Kanpur and expressed his grief.

The CM has announced Rs 2 lakh as compensation each to the families of the deceased. He has ordered the district and police administration to do ensure the injured receive necessary medical treatment.

The Prime Minister also expressed his condolences to the families of the victim and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Adityanath has also asked the authorities to probe the reason behind the accident.
