UP: Five of a family charred to death, one injured as hut catches fire

Kanpur/UNI: Five members of a family were charred to death and one more was injured when a hut caught fire under mysterious circumstances in the Rura area of Kanpur Dehat district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said.

Police sources said that there is a Banjara Dera in Haramau village in which hundreds of families live in huts. "In one of the hut Prakash lives with his wife Reshma, son Satish (30), daughter-in-law Kajal (26), their sons Sunny (6), Sandeep (5) and daughter Gudiya (3)," they said.

Police sources said that the hut caught fire in the morning after which raised alarm.

"While the people were making efforts to douse the fire the thatched roof of the hut fell on Satish, Kajal, Sunny, Sandeep and Gudiya and they were charred to death. Satish's mother Reshma sustained burn injuries in the incident and has been admitted to the district hospital," the police said.

After getting the information District Magistrate Neha Jain and Superintendent of Police (SP) BBGTS Murthy reached the spot.

The SP said that information was received that a hut had caught fire in Banjara Dera in Haramau village. "The police force along with fire tenders and field unit reached the spot and inspected the area. While a couple and their three children were charred to death and a woman was injured in attempt to rescue the family," he said.

He said that the injured has been admitted to the district hospital. "The bodies have been seized and necessary legal action is being taken. Efforts are being made to ascertain the cause of fire."

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the fire incident in Kanpur Dehat district.

Wishing peace to the departed soul, he has expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.

The CM has directed the officials of the district administration to immediately take the injured to the hospital for their proper treatment. He has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
