Badaun/IBNS: A Muslim cleric's funeral on Monday led to a massive gathering and procession in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun, flouting norms of Covid-19 at a time the country is grappling with the huge spike in infections, media reports said.

In a video which went viral on social media, thousands of people were seen carrying the procession at the funeral of Islamic cleric, Qazi Hazrat Abdul Hameed Mohammed Salimul Qadri in the district.

Police have filed a case against unknown persons.

In the video, thousands of followers of the late cleric were seen in the funeral without mask and social distancing.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh, which is badly affected by Covid-19 second wave, is under complete lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

However, police said they maintained restraint as the procession was religious and a funeral.
