Uttar Pradesh: Two killed, five injured as bus rams into truck

Barabanki/UNI: Two people were killed and five others were injured when a bus rammed into a stationary truck in the Masauli area of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Thursday.

Police sources said that the incident took place on the Barabanki-Bahraich national highway late on Wednesday night when the private bus rammed into the stationary truck loaded with iron bars.

"The iron bars pierced through the passengers, killing two of them on the spot," they said.

Police sources said that while one of the victims was identified as bus conductor Awadhraj Shukla (44), a resident of Colonelganj in Gonda district, efforts were being made to identify the other.

"Five passengers, including Sunil Verma (45), Khadim (55), Shakir (32), Rishab (35), and Junaid (30), were seriously injured in the accident," they said.

Police sources said that one of the injured, Sunil Verma, was referred to Lucknow in a serious condition. "It is being said that 10 people were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident," they said.
