Violence erupts in Uttarakhand after authorities bulldoze 'illegal' madarsa

Haldwani (Uttarakhand): Violence engulfed Uttarakhand’s Haldwani after the authorities bulldozed an "illegal" madarsa on Thursday, media reports said.

Miscreants attacked the police, pelted stones and burnt vehicles, including a police car, reported IndiaToday.

Clashes erupted after Haldwani's municipal corporation demolished a madarsa believed to have been illegally constructed near the Banbhulpura police station today, the report said.

As authorities razed the illegal madrasa, some people living nearby hurled stones at the cops, injuring several officials.

Amid the spiralling violence, additional reinforcements have been rushed to Haldwani and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has convened a meeting with senior officials.

The mob also set a transformer on fire, resulting in a power outage in the area.

The report said that the mob has gheraoed the Banbhulpura police station, leaving several journalists and police officials trapped inside the building.
