'Was unaware of this side of Partha Chatterjee': Firhad Hakim on Bengal SSC scam

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal top minister and Trinamool Congress veteran Firhad Hakim on Tuesday said he was unable to recognise former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, who has been arrested in connection with the teacher recruitment scam.

Speaking to the media, Hakim said, "I don't know what had happened. Whatever has happened is undesirable. If jobs were given for money, it is shameful though the matter is subjudice."

"I have worked with Partha-da for years but couldn't think in my wildest dreams that he (Partha Chatterjee) will give jobs for money," the Kolkata Mayor, who is himself an accused in the Narada case, added.

Partha Chatterjee, former primary education board president and Trinamool MLA Manik Bhattacharya, youth leader Kuntal Ghosh are among the people who have been arrested so far in connection with the scam.

Moreover, Hakim said Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee was the "symbol of honesty" expressing his trust in the party chief in the backdrop of the massive corruption allegations against the incumbent.

"Mamata Banerjee is the symbol of honesty. She can't be wrong. She may trust someone which is not wrong," Banerjee's confidante said.
