WB chief secretary, DGP, Kolkata police commissioner apologise to SC in Saradha case
Kolkata, Feb 18 (IBNS): West Bengal chief secretary Malay K. De, DGP Virendra Kumar and Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar have filed their replies to a contempt petition filed by the CBI in the Supreme Court in the Saradha Ponzi case.
In their affidavits, while offering "unconditional apology", the officers said they never obstructed the CBI in its investigation. However, the Kolkata police commissioner said the CBI officers had tried to enter his house forcibly without valid papers, The Indian Express said.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has said the court would take a decision on whether the officers will have to make a personal appearance before it on February 20 after going through their affidavits.
The CBI had moved the Supreme Court after they were not allowed to question the Kolkata police commissioner on February 3.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had gone on a three-day 'Save the Constitution' dharna in central Kolkata's Esplanade to protest against what she said was a coup plot by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
The CBI later questioned Kumar in Shillong only after the Supreme Court assured that he would not be arrested.
