We will change systems for the differently-abled: PM Modi in Varanasi
Varanasi, Jan 22 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said his government will do everything possible and change rules and systems for the differently-abled people to live a better life in the country.
While addressing a public meeting in Varanasi,during the Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Samaroh, where he distributed devices to the differently-abled people, he said, "We will do everything possible, where rules and systems have to be changed, we will change them."
"While people are sympathetic, things are lacking when it comes to facilities be it in trains, buses etc. As a society, we have to ensure that together we have to care for all those who are 'Divyang'," said the PM.
During his last Mann ki Baat radio talk in 2015, PM Modi coined the word 'divyang' (people with extraordinary capabilities) to be used in place of 'viklang (handicapped). According to him, most of the times it has been seen that such 'divyang' people have capabilities, which even normal people do not have.
The prime minister said he prefers to use the word 'divyang', because he wants to change the mindset of people.
Speaking about his personal experience at the meeting, Modi said, "I recall so many touching experiences when I was CM, when I interacted with the 'Divyang' sisters and brothers. I met a 'divyang' child called Rahul here. I was amazed at how he operated the computer. Let us not think about what is lacking in a person, let us see what is the extraordinary quality a person is blessed with."
Modi welcomed the effort made by the Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Samaroh by saying that camps such as these will eliminate the middle-men.
The PM reiterated his earlier promise, "We are constantly thinking about how development will reach the poor and how the lives of the poor will be transformed. I said on Day One that our Government will always be there for the poor and for those who have faced struggles in life."
Modi also thanked Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe, "for his kind words he said on Kashi and on the Ganga." The Japanese premier had visited Varanasi with Modi in December 2015.
He also recalled the visit to Varanasi by Lord Raj Loomba, member of the British House of Lords, London, UK. and founder-chairman of Loomba Foundation. "Lord Loomba and his wife have done a lot of work for widows and to ensure that they can lead a good life, " he said.
Prime minister Modi will attend the convocation ceremony at the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow and interact with students there, distribute e-rickshaws organised by Bharatiya Micro Credit, and pay tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar before flying back to Delhi.
This is Modi's fifth visit to his constituency, Varanasi, after he became the prime minister.
