West Bengal: Gang-rape victim commits suicide after threatened by accused

Kolkata, Dec 26 (IBNS): A nearly 22-year-old rape survivor committed suicide on Sunday night after receiving continuous threats from an accused in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, reports said.

According to reports, the woman was allegedly gang-raped by three youth near her residence at Vidyanagar village under Bishnupur Police Station limits in South 24 Parganas on Oct 13.

After starting probe into the incident, police arrested two men- Sudhendu Pal and Kartik Jana- in connection with the case and one of the duo, Sudhendu Jana, was granted bail from a local court 15 days ago.

After getting bail, the accused allegedly threatened the victim to rape her again if she did not withdraw the complaint.

As the woman could not bear with the severe mental pressure, she committed suicide on Sunday night at her home.

Police, however, have begun the investigation again, slapping new charges on the accused, while Sudhendu Jana becomes untraceable after the incident.
