West Bengal: NIA arrests two JMB suspects wanted in Burdwan blast case
Kolkata, Jan 29 (IBNS): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday midnight arrested two suspected terrorists, who were wanted in Khagragarh blast case that took place in West Bengal's Burdwan district in 2014, from Arambagh in Hooghly district of Bengal, officials said.
According to reports, two Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) suspects, who were identified as Kadar Kazi alias Kador and Habibur alias Sajjad Ali, were nabbed from Dongol area under Arambagh Police Station limits in Hooghly.
"Based on specific source inputs, we along with local police raided a location in Hooghly's Arambagh on Monday midnight and arrested two JMB suspects wanted in Khagragarh explosion case," an NIA official told IBNS.
NIA officials said that Kadar Kazi and Sajjad Ali, who hail from Nanur in Birbhum and Kandi in Murshidabad districts of West Bengal respectively, had gone absconding since the explosion took place in Khagragarh and recently they returned to West Bengal.
"The suspected terrorists, who are well trained in IED (Improvised Explosive Device)-making skills, had been staying in Armabagh for last few months under false identities of bricklayers and we got inputs about their movements after quizzing JMB leader Kausar Ali, who was held in August last year from Bangalore," the NIA official said.
"We are interrogating the duo and looking into other aspects as watches along with wires were recovered from their possessions," the official added.
The arrested JMB suspects have been brought to Kolkata and will be produced before an NIA special court in the city on Tuesday, according to officials.
The accidental IED blast, which occurred on Oct 2 in 2014 at Khagragarh area in West Bengal's East Burdwan (then Burdwan) district, led to the killing of two bomb makers and discovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition as well as an active terror module in the state.
Few days later, on Oct 10, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the probe in the matter and after few months, the agency filed a charge sheet before a special court in Kolkata, framing 30 accused under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and several sections of the IPC and Arms and Explosive Acts.
A link with the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was established in the course of investigation into the blast.
