West Bengal records highest-ever single-day spike with 986 Covid-19 cases, 23 more deaths reported

Kolkata/IBNS: A day before "stricter lockdown" in all the broad-based containment zones across West Bengal, the state on Wednesday registered 986 new cases of Covid-19, the highest single-day spike so far, taking the tally to 24,823, including 7,705 active cases, 827 deaths and 16,291 discharges, state health department said.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) on Wednesday, in the last 24 hours, the state reported 23 more Covid-19 fatalities and 501 discharges.

The state bulletin said that the recovery rate in Bengal had dropped to 65.62 per cent which was at 66.24 per cent on Tuesday.

With the highest single-day spike of 366 new infections, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases mounted to 8,046 in the state capital Kolkata, including 2,814 active cases, 444 deaths and 4,788 recoveries, the bulletin read. 

West Bengal has tested 5,72,523 samples till date with 10,386 tests conducted in 52 testing facilities across the state in the past 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 5,152 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 36,824 people are under home surveillance in the state.
