Kolkata/IBNS: Maintaining its absolute dominance in the political spectrum of West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set for a clean sweep in 108 civic bodies where elections were held on Sunday.

As per the latest trends, TMC is leading/winning in 90 seats while the Others in one.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Left and Congress are yet to open its account.

Very significantly, TMC is winning in Contai or Kathi, which is known as the stronghold of the Adhikari family, which has switched to BJP before the 2021 assembly polls.

"We do not like opposition-free civic bodies. Opposition is important to do work but can't help if people wipe them out," said Akhil Giri, who is from East Midnapore where Contai is located.

In Darjeeling, BJP has suffered a blow as the newly formed Hamro Party is set to sweep the polls held in the hills.

In a worry for TMC and its chief Mamata Banerjee, four civic bodies are heading for a hung with the Independents, who were denied tickets by the ruling party, are in the second position.

Despite the imminent sweeping victory of TMC, opposition parties have accused the ruling party of resorting to violence, rigging, booth capturing on the polling day.
