Who took away PM's freedom of speech, asks Modi

Lakhimpur Kheri, UP, Apr 14 (IBNS): Slamming the Congress party on BR Ambedkar's birth anniversary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Monday asked who snatched away PM Manmohan Singh's Freedom of Speech and Expression.
"Babasaheb Ambedkar gave us so much but due to your family politics you never let what he envisioned become a reality. Dr. Ambedkar gave freedom of speech but who took away the freedom of speech of our own PM. Sonia ji, people want to know,” said Modi while addressing a rally at Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.

The aspiring PM made this statement in reference to former advisor to the Prime Minister, Sanjaya Baru's book  'The Accidental Prime Minister', where the later claimed that Singh was "defanged" by the Congress in his second term with Sonia Gandhi, deciding over key appointments to the Cabinet and to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Modi attacked the Congress for their failure in ensuring even the basic amenities for the people and urged the people to support the BJP for better governance.

The Gujarat CM also recalled Ambedkar’s contribution in ensuring social harmony and stated how the Congress had only insulted him, even as it failed to address the concerns of the Dalits and the oppressed.

He stated that despite being in power the Congress never honoured Ambedkar, even for years after his death.

He said that it was only under the BJP rule that due recognition was given to Ambedkar by bestowing him with the Bharat Ratna.
