New Delhi, Apr 29 (IBNS): India on Wednesday continued to aid Nepal in its relief and rescue operation after the Himalayan nation was hit by a devastating earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale, which claimed over 5000 lives.

Amid incidents of violence and allegations of coercion, firing and booth capturing, Kolkata witnessed daylong balloting to elect a new KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) on Saturday (April 18, 2015). Polling was held in 144 wards The Opposition alleged rampant violence in the polls against the ruling TMC which rubbished the charges. The Election Commission admitted they received several complaints. A sub-inspector of police also sustained bullet injury even as the Opposition alleged inaction by the police forces. Ninety other municipalities in West Bengal will go to polls next week. The civic polls are seen as a semifinal before the assembly polls in the state next year. Images by IBNS
