Mumbai, Dec 12 (IBNS): Aditya Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge indeed proved to be an eternal love story as the film celebrates its 1000 weeks on Mumbai's Maratha Mandir's screen.
For the last 19 years, the film has managed to win hearts of Indians.

On Friday, the film completed its 1,000 week at the iconic Maratha Mandir cinema hall.

The film was first screened here in October 1995.

The film tells the story of a young couple who fall in love on a European vacation, and relates how the boy tries to win over the girl's parents so that she can marry him rather than the boy that her father has chosen for her.

It was filmed in India, London, and Switzerland.

The film featured Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in lead pair. They later on became the most revered romantic couple of Bollywood.

Earning over Rs. 106 crore (US$17 million) in India and Rs. 16 crore (US$2.6 million) overseas, the film was declared an "All-time Blockbuster" and became the biggest Bollywood hit of the year, as well as one of the biggest Bollywood hits ever.

During the 1996 awards season, the film won 10 Filmfare Awards, the most ever for a single film at that time, as well as the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
