DDLJ crosses 1200-week run; SRK, Kajol thank fans

Mumbai, Oct 24 (IBNS): Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer 1995 Hindi film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has crossed its 1200-week run at the Indian box office.

The film, which crossed 23 years, is still running at the Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is centred on the love relationship of Raj and Simran, who were played by Shah Rukh and Kajol onscreen.

The film also features Amrish Puri and Farida Jalal in pivotal roles.

In the film, Puri, a strict father of Simran (Kajol), promises her daughter's hand to his friend's son but Raj (Shah Rukh) tries to win his ladylove over her family.

Regarding the success of the film which established him as a romantic hero in Bollywood, Shah Rukh said: "A special journey that began 23 years ago, goes on even today. Your love has kept Raj & Simran's story alive on the big screen for 1200 weeks non-stop. Thank u for falling in love with us so unconditionally for so many years! #23YearsOfDDLJ"

Shah Rukh's popular heroine, Kajol, tweeted to say, "1200 weeks and still running! thank you all for all the love that you have been showering on #DDLJ for so many years! It was, it is and will always be an incredibly special film for all of us."

The film was directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Chopra.
