Freida Pinto to star opposite Idris Elba in John Ridley's Guerilla

Mumbai, Aug 12 (IBNS): Actress Freida Pinto is set to feature alongside Idris Elba in John Ridley's six part limited TV series - Guerrilla, based on black activism in the U.K. in the 1970s.

She's currently in London shooting for the show, the shoot of which commenced just a short while ago.

Pinto is playing the lead role of Jas Mitra, a passionate and politically driven individual who is part of a radical underground cell that helps liberate a charismatic convict from prison to lead the street fight against social injustice in 1971 London.

The cell’s goal is to take down the Black Power Desk, a real life counter-intelligence unit tasked with suppressing black activism.

Although it’s set during one of the most politically turbulent times in the U.K. history, the series focuses on how Jas’ political activism tests her romantic relationship with Marcus, her partner in the movement.

“I’m thrilled to be working with an artist like John Ridley who has written these compelling scripts filled with thoughtful and complicated characters,” said Pinto when asked about Guerilla and being part of it.
