New York/New Delhi, Apr 30 (IBNS): Internet search engine Google on Monday celebrated   Indian filmmaker Dadasaheb Phalke's birth anniversary by designing its homepage with a doodle dedicated to him.

Phalke had made the first Indian silent movie 'Raja Harishchandra' in 1913.

Phalke, who is called the  'father of Indian cinema', had made 95 movies and 27 short films in his career.

As per the Google doodle website: "In 1913, India’s first silent film, Raja Harishchandra was released. Phalke’s magic touch with special effects and mythology made it a huge hit, and it was followed by a dozen more."

In 1969, the Government of India paid homage to this visionary filmmaker by establishing the Dadasaheb Phalke award recognizing lifetime contributions to Indian cinema.

"Today’s Doodle by guest artist Aleesha Nandhra shows a young Dadasaheb in action as he went about directing the first few gems in the history of Indian cinema. Happy Birthday!," read the doodle website.

Google often designs its homepage with doodles on special days, events and to mark birthdays of important personalities.
